God Supplies Our Needs
A Christian Scientist told me about a special meeting that was going to
be taking place in Boston. It would help young people learn more about
God. She said if I went I could only be blessed by it.
Since I was a
part time college student, I would be eligible to attend.
There was one problem. I was in the military service stationed 3000
miles away from the meeting. I did not have the money to travel, nor did
I believe I would be allowed to take a leave to attend it. When I told
this women that it would be very difficult for me to attend this meeting
she reminded me of Mary Baker Eddy's statement in her textbook Science
and Health with Key to the Scriptures which says: "Divine Love always has
met and always will meet every human need"(494:10)
There was a definite need for me to go to this meeting. I had only been
out of Vietnam for about a year. Since coming back from Vietnam I had
not gone to church much. I was very unhappy with my life. I was
still
rehearsing in my thought some unpleasant things that had happened to me
while I was in Vietnam. Divine Love had brought me to this dear woman.
Since it appeared I needed to go to this meeting divine Love would find a
way for me to attend it.
First, I sought permission to take a leave from my military duty to
attend the meeting from a Chaplin. He told me there was a regulation
that stated that anyone serving in the military was allowed to take a
religious retreat once a year. My meeting, he said, would qualify as a
religious retreat and make me eligible for a leave.
Next, I had to find an affordable way to travel. One of the men I worked
with told me about military flights that were occasionally available from
one base to another. I heard about a flight that would take me more than
halfway in the general direction of the meeting, and back afterwards, and
found that the crew had room for me. But how would I complete the trip?
A fellow church member mentioned she had a nephew, who lived near the
distant base that was going to the meeting. When I contacted him, he
invited me to ride with him to the meeting location, and back. I paid
him gas money of $25.00, which was the entire cost of my round trip
transportation.
When I went to this meeting I was able to talk with a friend of my
sister, who had been to Vietnam. He helped me see that I was only
blessed by serving in Vietnam and taking a stand for good. The only
thing I needed to rehearse is how much God loves me and continues to love
me. My experience there was like a bad dream and I could awake out of
it.
My blessings did not stop there. I was also able to go to these
wonderful meetings for a week. There were over a thousand people there
about my own age from all over the world. All of them were there to
learn more about God. Many of them shared at the meeting how God had
blessed them in their lives.
From the wonderful talks on Christian Science at the meeting, I learned
that God completely governs my life. I needed to turn more whole
heartily to His ever presence. Since He is all, there can be nothing
impossible to Him. I was never separated for an instant from God, even
in Vietnam. I gained my sense of peace. I was ready to put my past away
and move on with my life.
God does meet our every need. He provided a wonderful way for me to come
to this meeting and for me to have a heart to heart talk with another
Vietnam vet.
Jesus told his disciples: ... "With men it is impossible, but not with
God: for with God all things are possible." (Mark 10:27) He proved that
all things were possible to God. He healed the sick, fed the multitudes,
and even raised the dead.
Do you have a need? Refuse to look at what the material senses are
telling you. Look to what God is telling you. God is telling you that
all things are possible. They are possible because God is the source of
good and you are His perfect expression.
