Protection From Accidents
One evening, a friend and I were driving down the street to go to a
social event. It was raining quite hard and there was a fair amount of
traffic. Suddenly, the car spun out of control circling around in the
middle of the freeway. We both yelled out God is in control. I
vehemently said there are no accidents. The car stopped off the side of
the freeway and out of the flow of the traffic. We were still turned the
opposite way from the traffic. Within moments we turned the car around
and got back on the freeway. The car was untouched and we were protected
from any accident.
Right in the middle of that experience we had one of two choices to make.
The first choice was to affirm that right where that emergency was
taking place God was in control. The second choice was to become afraid
and believe that we were about to be in an accident. We chose to turn to
God and He delivered us from having to be involved in an accident.
Mary Baker Eddy in her book Science and Health with Key to the
Scriptures says: "Accidents are unknown to God, or immortal Mind, and we
must leave the mortal basis of belief and unite with the one Mind, in
order to change the notion of chance to the proper sense of God's
unerring direction and thus bring out harmony. Under divine Providence
there can be no accidents, since there is no room for imperfection in
perfection."(424:5-
When Mrs. Eddy uses the word Mind she is referring to God. The Mind of
God is only good. He wants only good for His child man. He will not
allow man to be harmed in an accident. We can trust Him to help us at
all times and in all dire emergencies.
We are not frightened children separated from God. God is not up here
and man down there. Where man is God is. God cannot exist without
his
perfect expression of himself.
Man is never a victim. He is never a statistic. Statistics that
predict
there will be a certain amount of accidents over a period of time are not
from God. God would never predict gloom for His perfect idea man.
No
matter what the material picture seems to be God is there. God is more
powerful than any predicament or to any statistic. Do not fear only
trust that God is near. The Bible states: "A thousand shall fall at thy
side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh
thee. For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all
thy ways." (Ps. 91:7,11)
Are you about to get in your car to go out? Fasten your seat belt but
most importantly, fasten your thought on God. He is directing your trip.
Choose to listen to God and He will protect you from all harm.
Remember
you are always the victor and not the victim.
